slow read speeds with external usb

got the macbook retina 2016, and I am using the apple multiple adapter to usb-c (it has hdmi, usb and usb c). I bought it today and when I first plugged it in, I was asked to update the driver and I did.

when i plugg it my usual external m2.ssd with an usb 3 enclosure and use disk magic I only get 40mbs reads/write; but when I plugged the same disk in my xps12 and use crystal disk metric, I get around 450mb/250mb reads/write.

any theories of why the read speeds are so low in the mac?
